Another new Web directory to hit the scene, this time by Loren Baker of Search Engine Journal, called Umdum (http://www.umdum.com).
The directory has commenced from a bare bones structure, which I have no doubt will grow over time. Loren states upon SEJ:
I feel that I can put together a top notch directory not only built around listings and links - but relevancy, authority, quality and usability.
With our tagline "Humanity at work!" I am dead set on showing the world that a human edited spam free directory can still be built and maintained; with an emphasis on quality and authority.
The directory is paid, costing $40.00 per listing, or $100 for a sponsored listing.
Congratulations on a job well done. I'll reserve my judgement on how well Loren believes the directory can be maintained, as this is the biggest problem with all directories, especially one of the current demises of DMOZ. Goodluck with the new venture Loren, and I hope it becomes everything you aspire it will.
